三十天后，独立记者、女权行动者黄雪琴将迎来“自由”的日子。

2021年9月19日，黄雪琴与王建兵（煎饼）被秘密抓捕并任意羁押，最后以“煽动颠覆国家政权罪”分别被判刑五年和三年半。这是当局对雪饼两人长期以来的社群行动和底层关怀的政治检控和报复。煎饼早先已于2025年3月18日出狱，雪琴也将在下月结束五年的政治刑期，于2026年9月18日正式出狱。

雪琴被捕后，与煎饼一样处于连续五个月的单独关押和疲劳审讯。在关押的前五个月里，她连续四个月没来月经，身体暴瘦十多斤。在长期的身体折磨和审讯下，雪琴仍然意志坚定，甚至在看守所和监狱教狱友英文，也为ta们权益发声。在她的一审自辩陈述中，她说道：

“我们抱怨时代越发浅薄，人们越来越自私自利，但又不愿意承担自己的公民责任；我们对房间里的大象保持沉默，又用时代或政治的压制为我们的沉默辩护….我不安也不甘于这样的现状….即便不自量力，我也努力做出改变，活出期待的世界的样子，向往公平正义和良善，追求自由和真实”。

雪琴一直在用她的良善之心，保卫这个社会罕有的自由表达与社会正义。

五年的牢狱结束并不代表完全的自由。出狱后的雪琴同样将面临四年的剥夺政治权利的额外处罚，并被罚没收个人财产10万元。这意味着，出狱后的雪琴或将难以享有任何公开表达、写作或出版的权利，甚至面对无休止的软性监控和移动受限，以及被阻止与外界社会重新建立互动。这对于一个记者和行动者而言，无异于自由被再次剥夺。

我们将不会容忍这类非法行为的发生，释放后的雪琴必须要享有充分的自由！我们同时也呼吁民间社群、国际社会，继续关注雪琴的人身安全，保障雪琴能够有一个自由、宽松的环境进行身心恢复。迄今，我们仍然不知道雪琴出狱后会被送到何处、当局将如何安排，我们将密切关注雪琴出狱情况，雪琴必须安全、自由、健康地回到家！

30 Days Until Huang Xueqin’s Release

In thirty days, independent journalist and feminist activist Huang (Sophia) Xueqin will finally see “freedom.”

On September 19, 2021, Huang Xueqin and Wang Jianbing were secretly arrested and arbitrarily detained. They were ultimately sentenced to five years and three and a half years respectively on charges of “inciting subversion of state power.” This was political persecution and retaliation by the authorities against the two activists for their years of community activism and advocacy for marginalized communities and social justice. Jianbing was released on March 18, 2025. Xueqin will complete her five-year political sentence and is set to be released on September 18, 2026.

After her arrest, Xueqin, like Jianbing, endured five consecutive months of solitary confinement and exhausting interrogation. During the first five months of detention, she lost her period for four straight months and shed more than ten kilograms. Yet even under prolonged physical abuse and interrogation, Xueqin remained unbroken in spirit—she even taught fellow detainees English in the detention center and prison, and spoke out for their rights. In her self-defense statement at her first trial, she said:

“We complain that our era has grown ever more shallow, that people are increasingly selfish and unwilling to bear their responsibilities as citizens; we stay silent about the elephant in the room, and use the pressures from our time or politics to justify that silence… I am troubled by this, and I refuse to accept it as it is… However far it may be beyond my power, I still strive to change it—to live as the person I hope this world could be, to hold fast to fairness, justice, and goodness, and to pursue freedom and truth.”

Xueqin has always used that same goodness of heart to defend a kind of free expression and social justice that has grown so rare in our society.
But the end of her five-year prison term does not mean full freedom. After her release, Xueqin still faces four years of deprivation of political rights, along with the confiscation of 100,000 yuan in personal assets. In practice, this means she may be barred from any form of public expression, writing, or publishing, and could face relentless soft surveillance, restrictions on her movement, and deliberate efforts to keep her isolated from reconnecting with the outside world and communities. For a journalist and activist, this amounts to having her freedom stripped away all over again.

We will not tolerate this kind of unlawful treatment—Xueqin must be granted full and genuine freedom upon her release! We call on civil society and the international community to continue paying close attention to Xueqin’s personal safety, and to help ensure she has a free, unrestricted environment in which to recover, physically and mentally. To this day, we still do not know where Xueqin will be taken after her release or what the authorities have planned. We will be watching closely, and we insist: Xueqin must return home safely, freely, and in good health!
